Founded by Suellen Newman, The Hudson School was born from a conviction that children deserve more than rote learning: they deserve an education that opens new windows on the world, constantly challenges assumptions, encourages intellectual risk-taking, and fosters appreciation of the rich cultural diversity found in an urban setting. Forty-six years later, that founding vision still guides everything we do.

With 280 students from Toddler through Grade 12, The Hudson School offers the intimacy of a small school (a 5:1 student-to-faculty ratio, small class sizes, and a Head of School who knows every child by name) alongside a rigorous, full Preschool–12 program accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, and nearly a third of our students receive financial aid. Our two Hoboken campuses (Lower and Middle School at 422 Willow Avenue, Upper School at 601 Park Avenue) are woven into the fabric of this vibrant urban community, which grew in 2024 when The Mustard Seed School merged with THS.

Spirited debate and vigorous inquiry are grounded in genuine care for one another. We seek to help every student experience the power of kindness as a daily practice, not a slogan.

A commitment to noble causes, academic endeavors, and personal integrity is central to a THS education. Hudson students show up, follow through, and hold themselves to a high standard.

Lower School (Preschool–Grade 4)
Play-based learning that nurtures curiosity and builds foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development at 422 Willow Avenue.

Middle School (Grades 5–8)
Challenging academics combined with creative exploration, helping students develop critical thinking and discover their passions.
