Scott McVay, former director of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, said that, in his judgment, The Hudson School’s budget was “Smoke and Mirrors.” happy1He qualified this remark by explaining that we provided far more educational opportunities with far less money than almost any other school he knew.
He was right. It takes a little magic and imagination to run a school like ours with a need-blind admission policy.  As an independent, nonprofit school, we rely on donations from families and alumni to ensure a thriving future for our students. We also seek funding from foundations and other philanthropic organizations, who look at our community’s contribution rates to decide whether and how much to give. That’s why every person making a donation — not just every dollar donated — matters. Each and every contribution is needed and appreciated.

To continue to provide the best educational experience for the children who attend The Hudson School, we look to our community members for support. Parents, trustees, alumni, alumni families, grandparents, friends, neighbors and staff and faculty all help to ensure a bright future for the school and continuing educational opportunities for our students.

Donations to the school’s Annual Fund benefit the entire Hudson community. Annual Fund donations support all aspects of The Hudson School’s programs and activities during the school year. As these donations are unrestricted, they are used wherever most needed — often, towards our financial aid program — however, the Annual Fund supports everything that helps enrich our school, from valuable materials and technology for the classrooms to school trips, special music and fine art programs, guest lecturers, and athletic, fitness and nutrition programs.

The Hudson School maintains a “need-blind admissions policy.” We admit all applicants for whom we have space based on their academic accomplishments and their motivation to learn, not on their family’s ability to pay full tuition. In addition to a challenging college-preparatory curriculum, Hudson School students receive music, theater, arts, trips and after-school activities as part of their education. Our Financial Aid Fund’s goal is to help students from low-income families reach their full potential. Each year, around 35% of our students receive financial aid, for a total cost of over $750,000.

One very rewarding part of a teacher’s profession is being appreciated and acknowledged as they watch their students succeed. It takes just a few minutes to let that special teacher know they are making a difference. One method to let teachers know they are appreciated is to donate funds as a teacher tribute. These donations are used to purchase special items on teachers’ wish lists that might not be covered in our budget and for special professional development opportunities.

Won’t you help us provide the next generation with the best possible education and remunerate our faculty for their dedication and hard work? Every gift matters. Every gift counts!
