THS Presents: Into The Woods

INTO THE WOODS

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

Book by James Lapine

“Into the woods to get my wish; I don’t care how. The time is now.” The Hudson School is going into the woods with this classic masterpiece from composer Stephen Sondheim and book writer James Lapine. Inspired by the tales written by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, creators Sondheim and Lapine take us on a journey to discover that for every action, there is a reaction; for every wish, there is a consequence; and that beyond the Happy-Ever-After, are still further moments of insecurity, doubt, and lessons to be learned. To quote Stephen Sondheim, “All fairy tales are parables about steps to maturity. The final step is when you become responsible for the people around you, when you feel connected to the rest of the world.”
Engaging, harrowing, comedic, brutal, and poignant, the story follows a Baker and his Wife as they seek to end a curse on their house. Along the way there’s a giant, two princes, a saucy young granddaughter, a ravenous wolf, a fair young maiden, an adventurous lad, and of course, a Witch. (There’s always a Witch.) The brilliant, award-winning score features such beloved songs as, “I Know Things Now,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone,” and “Children Will Listen.”
The cast includes Simone Bogedal, Lindsey deCavaignac, Christian Englehardt, Amelia Firestone, Matthew Firestone, Giuseppe Gaspari, Bailey Kasdon, Emiliano Leal, Gianluca LoPorto, Noel Meyer and Sienna Santiago. Joining the cast will be faculty members Jack Coggins, Adam Sentoni, and Eileen Vanderheyden. The production is directed and designed by Adam Sentoni.
Into the Woods will be presented at The Hudson School Performance Space, 601 Park Avenue, Hoboken, NJ
